Bamboo resource/queue manager

Overview:

The Bamboo resource manager provides the interfaces and services required of the Queue Manager component of the Scalable Systems Software Suite. As such it provides XML interfaces to perform job actions such as submitting a job, querying for information about the current set of jobs on a system, running a job, signalling a job, and deleting a job. In addition a full set of command line utilities are provided to perform the usual set of jobs actions. The utilities provide most of the same interfaces as the popular PBS resource management system (including qsub, qstat, qdel, etc).

Bamboo has been created by the Scalable Computing Laboratory at Ames Laboratory. It is released under the terms of a BSD style open source license.

IMPORTANT: This is the first release of Bamboo. We consider it to be an alpha release and thus there are expected to be bugs and there are certainly incomplete features!

Features:

Bamboo provides the basic required features of a resource manager:

  •     Job submission - uses a PBS compatible syntax
  •     Job monitoring - qstat
  •     Job signaling - send user signals to the users running jobs
  •     Job deletion
  •     Job startup - privledged command to start jobs
  •     Management of running jobs - run administrative scripts, users steps, output delivery
  •     Interfaces to the Checkpoint manager to handle suspend/resume and checkpoint/restart support
  •     Currently implements a flat file storage scheme
Bamboo interfaces with other components in the SSS suite including the scheduler, process manager, and checkpoint manager.
